I am a firm believer of serendipity. What is serendipity, you ask? Well, the dictionary definition is “an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident”. In my eyes, serendipity is something we all have; yet we just don’t realize it until the moment arises. I don’t believe we stumble upon it, or it bites us in the buttocks. I believe serendipity is something that is waiting to be found, and when we do find it; it changes us. Whether it is an object that you’ve been longing to find, or someone you ran into on the sidewalk, or a childhood memory that brought you back to a desired place, or love that you never thought was there. Life is all about figuring out who we are, and what we want to do with the time we have here; and I believe serendipity guides us to do just that. To randomly come into our lives and show us direction; give us spurs of happiness when we need it most and when we least expect it. I was just thinking a little bit of my life today, and all the little “serendipity moments” I have had lately. As cliché as it is; expect the unexpected.

So Here's the Fans
What is up with America and their sports? My teammates and I decided that we’d go have lunch at this sports bar down on 2nd Street called Legends today just to hang out and see what new places we can indulge at. I’m not really a local “Long Beacher” so this was my first time going to this place, and I was immediately taken back when I walked in through the doors. There were televisions, literally, everywhere! Not just small TV’s here and there; there was monster size flat screens covering the walls. The main screen was a projector that covered the entire wall, which was playing the USC vs. Washington game. Everyone’s eyes were glued to one television, or other’s would go back and forth glancing at one TV, then another game on the opposite wall. The guest wore their favorite team’s jersey, and there was even one guy that had his face painted. Then I thought to myself, “Why do we surround our days and even our lives around something we have no control of? Why are we so committed to supporting a sports team that we have no relationship with?” American society is so intrigued by watching one team tackle each other; or another team’s pitching speed, but for what? To go home happy or sad, knowing that “your” team won or lost? It really has no effect on our lives, just our feelings. I can’t even judge, because I know how it is when my Anaheim Ducks hockey team loses. I become sad for the rest of the day; my whole day is influenced by whether my team does good or not. I don’t know, this kind of things amazes me.

So Here's to Nickelodeon
What ever happened to Saturday morning cartoons? The all-American show of the 90’s that every little kid anticipated all week for; like the mischievous ‘Rugrats’, the ups and downs of ‘Hey! Arnold’, the life of ‘Doug’, the odd and weird “CatDog’, the crazy adventures of’ The Wild Thornberries’, the action of ‘Rocket Power’, and even the imagination of ‘KABLAM!’ I just remember waking up just before 8 A.M. to pour a bowl of lucky charms, and sit on my pillow in front of the living room television. Little joys like this really makes me think of my childhood and how simple it was. These cartoons were the highlight of my week. If Nickelodeon decided to play this shows again, I could probably recite all the shows and still enjoy them as much as I did then. Kids now are interested in ‘Hannah Montana’, ‘Jonas Brothers’, and ‘Teen Mom’. I feel as if the old cartoons really brought me up in life to be imaginative and to remember where I came from. They kept me young and showed me to take my childhood slow; to not rush into growing up. Looking back on it now, I wish I can still be a little kid with my little bowl of cereal sitting ‘criss-cross applesauce’ on the floor looking up at Tommy and Angelica as happy as can be.
